Another media briefing was held under the auspices of Minister S.B. Dissanayake on Wednesday, January 20.

A journalist stated that heads of local government bodies from Dambulla and Anuradhapura noted that they must contest the local government election under the stewardship of Mahinda Rajapaksa.

He added that it doesn’t matter if President Sirisena remains as Chairman, if not they would contest from an alternate group.

Minister of Social Empowerment and Welfare, S.B. Dissanayake stated that they held a media briefing saying that they should all definitely come together and contest with the SLFP, as he witnessed it.

He added that during the run-up to elections, a majority wants to contest together, even though there are one or two persons who wants to contest separately He went on to admit that there is a strong division within the SLFP internally, since there are various groups with several opinions.

As journalists raised questions, he noted that there is no committee appointed to unite Mahinda and Maithri but there are some politics they engage in behind closed doors.
