Defence Secretary Karunasena Hettiarachchi says that the programme to purchase fighter aircrafts for the Air Force has not been suspended.
Air Force spokesman Group Captain Chandima Alwis said that the country is in need of new fighter aircrafts, as the current fighter air-crafts are nearly 30 years old.
The secretary of defence said that measures are being taken to consider the requirements before purchasing the fighter aircrafts, adding that a decision is yet to be made to identify the country from which to make the purchase.
