The Ministry of Agriculture has stated that they have taken steps to implement a new programme to increase the harvest from paddy cultivation.
Additional Secretary, Prof. Suba Heenkenda stated that new technological tools and methods will be introduced to the agriculture industry. He added that during the initial harvest, preparations have been taken to increase the harvest for one hectare from 4.2 tonnes to 4.7 tonnes.
He went on to note that Sri Lanka’s harvest from paddy cultivation, compared to other Asian countries, has dropped since new technology is under-used.
