Elon Musk’s brainchild Tesla Motors is undoubtedly the world’s leading electric vehicle brand. The release of the Tesla model S set a new benchmark in the electric car industry as well as the luxury car industry. However Tesla’s reign as the world’s leading electric vehicle brand could be cut short by two upstart challengers who made their debut at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas Navada.

Introducing the Chevrolet Bolt. Tipped as an electric car that people actually could afford to use as a first option car the product by General Motors will be available in markets later this year. The 2017 Chevy Bolt could best be described as a mid price electric vehicle in the shape of a mini SUV. Just like the configuration of the Tesla model S, the bolt has a lithium-ion battery pack built into the floor storing upto 50 kWh of energy. Chevy claims that this provides the car with a range of around 200 miles.

Equipped with a DC fast charger the BOLT could refill its batteries to 80% capacity in 30 minutes and completely charge its batteries in less than an hour. The Chevrolet Bolt will ship later this year and appears to be more or less the price, range, and carrying capacity Tesla has been promising for its Tesla Model 3 people’s car for about three years now.

If the Bolt is the challenger for Tesla in the affordability category, the Faraday Future FFZERO1 race car concept is the clear challenger in terms of performance. The futuristic FFZERO1 is a 1,000 horse power electric car capable of topping speeds over 200 miles per hour, the acceleration of the car is also quite something 0-60 mph in just three seconds. It’s basically an electric batmobile with a glass roof , instrument panels that displays drive-train information and collects bio-metric data on the driver. The floor-mounted battery array can be up- or downsized based on the needs of the particular owner. The car itself can be readily reconfigured by the scalable platform.
