Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa visited the Bahirawa Kanda Temple in Kandy in Jan. 9 and engaged in religious observances. He called on the Chief Incumbent Venerable Yatawatte Dhammananda Thero and the members of the Sangha at the temple.
The former oresident stated that if proceedings continue in this manner, the whole parliament will become one party but that in a democracy there is a ruling party along with an opposition.
He said for democracy to prevail, there needs to be an opposition and the abiltiy to save democracy lies with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
