The establishment of the Special Presidential Task Force for the protection of children took place on the morning of Thursday January 7 under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena.
The President’s Media Division (PMD) said that the Task Force was established based on a promise made by President Sirisena. Establishing the task force, President Sirisena called for better co-ordination among state institutions to ensure that child protection in the country is further strengthened.
Measures that have been taken to resolve issues surrounding child protection were discussed at the occasion. The PMD noted that attention was also drawn towards restructuring the legal framework in order to promote child nutrition and health.
