Assuming duties for the New Year at the Temple Trees, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe made a special statement on the future development of the country.
Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe stated that freedom has been brought to the country under the leadership of President Sirisena. A new constitution has been introduced and for the first time, the president has expressed his willingness to curtail his executive powers.
He went on to note that the human rights problem was eliminated as they took steps to restore these rights, while resettling the people in the North by returning their lands.
He added that they will be heading on a new path as they have commenced all their political programmes, and also commence a socio-economic program that will bring socio-economic progress in three years.
Explaining further, he stated that everyone who criticizses will be on their side as they will initiate major development.
On the first working day of the New Year, the Prime Minister extended his best wishes to the staff. Ministers, MPs and public officials were present at the occasion.
