Minister Faiszer Musthapha, issuing a statement, says that a legal process was followed to postpone the local government polls.
In July last year, the National Demarcation Committee that was appointed in December 2012 presented a report. However, as there were complaints made citing various issues, a legal committee was appointed to look into them.
The statement by the Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils reads that there is legal provision to postpone the elections until the demarcation process is over. In response to a statement made by MP Udaya Gammanpila over the postponing of the local elections, the minister went on to note that the MP should have a sound knowledge of the law before making such statements.
