President Maithripala Sirisena has stated today that solving the issue of traffic congestion is one of the main priorities for this governments development agenda in Colombo.
He made this remark at a discussion on the Megapolis Development Plan, which will be implemented in 2016, as the year’s main development project.
The president remarked that project will revamp Colombo’s garbage disposal, housing facilities drinking water and sanitary facilities for slum dwellers. The president made a point of noting that although this development project will greatly benefit the city of Colombo more needed to be done to ensure that other provinces in the country were lifted to a higher standard, particularly healthcare and education.
He said that this was necessary ” so that the number of people arriving to Colombo, seeking better facilities could be reduced”.
The implementation of the development plan will be carried out under three phases and will be completed by 2030.
Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, Patali Champika Ranawaka said Sri Lanka will be able to generate about 30 billion US Dollars worth of investments within the next 10 years through this Megapolis Development Project.
