The Department of Meteorology is forecasting showers in excess of 100 millimetres in some parts of the country as a result of a disturbance in the atmosphere.

Intermittent showers or thundershowers can be expected in the Northern, Eastern, North Central, Southern and Uva provinces.

Northeast monsoonal winds can strengthen up to 50 kmph at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills. A minor landslide situation has arisen in Samanalagama, Hatton as a result of the rain, with 12 houses affected.

The Nuwara Eliya District Secretary has asked residents to evacuate due to the prevailing risk.
