The State Music Awards Festival 2015 which is organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs took place on Thursday evening.
The event was held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, and was presided over by President Maithripala Sirisena.
The special awards were given to Professor Amara Ranatunga, Dr. Victor Rathnayake, Professor Sunil Ariyaratne, Latha Walpola, Musician Premadasa Mudunkotuwa and Stanley M. Fernando.
Speaking at the event, President said that an artist and musician understands human nature. Through this , certain aspects people lack in society is identified and showcased. Therefore, as a Government and as a society we have a responsibility to support and assist those in this industry, from the amateur to the professional. I see this as a national responsibility.
