President Maithripala Sirisena participated in a number of events held in Colombo on Thursday.

The prize-giving ceremony of the countrywide competition of the Social Discourse and Cooperation Workshop – 2015 was held at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre on Thursday.

Speaking during the event, the President said that persons who were defeated only think of over-throwing the newly elected government or the leader of the government. He added that the political programme of  most countries is to work together to take their countries forward, giving their assistance to the new governments being elected in the democratic system.

President went onto note:

In our country, people do not think of the country or the future of the country or the economy of the country, or even the children that will be born in the future in this country. Here, they search for the horoscope of the leader who was elected and look as to when he will die or who will kill him. They consult the fortune tellers to see for how long the reign of the leader would be. This is politics in our country…”

Two thousand three hundred and forty five (2345) manpower employees of the Ceylon Electricity Board were made permanent on Thursday.

The appointments were presented by the president at the Buddhadasa Grounds in Pellawatta.
