The series of awareness programmes of the campaign titled Empower the Woman which was launched countrywide, successfully concluded its final programme on Thursday.
The programme, which addressed the security, and rights of women across the country, completed day 15. The closing ceremony of the campaign is set to take place in Maharagama on Friday afternoon.
Adding more strength to the women who render an insurmountable service for the betterment of the nation, the programme to empower women commenced its journey from Negombo on Thursday.
The programme which commenced opposite the Negombo bus stop, continued its efforts in creating awareness among the women in the area on the cause, and simultaneously creating a platform for the women to present their proposals.
The campaign, an initiative of News1st, Sirasa and Shakthi, is jointly supported by the National Youth Serivces Council, Sri Lanka Police, Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Councils and District and Divisional Secretariats.
Thereafter, our team covered the streets of Negombo reaching its people, educating and creating awareness on the safety and rights of women.
The other leg of the Empower the Woman campaign got underway from Kalutara on Thursday morning, with the assistance of various factions.
The programme which commenced at the Kalutara Bus Stop saw the participation of the police, state institutions and civil society representatives.
While proposals and solutions were recorded from women on the issues they face, a human chain was formed at the centre of the Kalutara town.
