Opposition MPs of the United People’s Freedom Alliance convened a media briefing on Wednesday.

UPFA MP, Dullas Alahapperuma stated:

Estimates of the government revenue reduces daily. The budget deficit, from the one that was presented by the Finance Minister, and now, is over 100 billion rupees. I am not certain that a country can move ahead with a budget like this and those who voted in favour during the second reading of the budget must now understand that the reasons for which we voted against are reasonable.  So, all the members of this joint opposition have taken a decision to put their lives on the line and vote against the budget

SLFP Member of Parliament, Ranjith De Soyza stated:

Ministers in the Parliament expressed their approval and joy by tapping on the table when proposals such as charging for emission tests, terminating the licenses of the executive officials were presented.

He further stated:

This budget is humourous, But we strongly state that we will not change our decision we took when the joint opposition presented their proposals. And now the joint opposition has decided to use our votes against this budget.
