US Under Secretary Thomas Shannon, who arrived in the country on a two-day official visit concerning political affairs, is set to visit the Eastern Province on an official tour today, Tuesday, December 15.
Upon arriving on Monday evening, Thomas Shannon held discussions with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mangala Samaraweera.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry said that they held bilateral talks to strengthen the relationship between the US and Sri Lanka through bi-lateral trade and investment and maritime cooperation.
The US Under Secretary is scheduled to hold discussions with President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Wednesday.
During his visit, Thomas Shannnon hopes to hold further discussions with high-ranking state officials, civil society representatives and the business community.
