President Maithripala Sirisena left for Rome on Sunday on a two-day official visit.
Issuing a communique, the President’s Media Division said that President Maithripala Sirisena left for a visit to the Vatican on an invitation extended by His Holiness Pope Francis I. This will be the second meeting between the President and the Pope, since the visit of the Holy Father to Sri Lanka in January.
Following that meeting between the President and Pope Francis, Archbishop of Colombo His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith said that the Pope had commended the President for his charming and simple lifestyle and that those qualities are exemplary to the world leaders of today.
