TAPI Gas Pipeline launched : Capital Maharaja Org. represented at ground-breaking ceremony

The Capital Maharaja Organization Ltd was represented recently at the TAPI [Turkmenistan, Afghanistan,Pakistan and India ] gas pipeline ground-breaking ceremony, seen as perhaps the most historic international oil & gas pipeline.

The $7.6 Billion Natural Gas pipeline, will begin at its source, the Galkanysh Gas Field in Turkmenistan and run across Afghanistan and Pakistan to India. The Galkanysh Oil Field is the worlds 2nd largest proven gas reserve, with an estimated 14 Trillion Cubic Meters of Natural Gas.

The Ground-breaking ceremony held in the historic Mary region in Turkmenistan was graced by the President of Turkmenistan, The President of Afghanistan, The Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Vice-President of India.

Turkmenistan’s state company Turkmengas will lead the consortium for building the 1800-kilometre-long pipeline carrying gas from the former Soviet state to energy-hungry India, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The TAPI pipeline will have a capacity to carry 90 million standard cubic metres a day for a 30-year period and is targeted to be operational in 2018. India and Pakistan would get 38 mmscmd each, while the remaining 14 mmscmd will be supplied to Afghanistan.

India’s state gas utility GAIL has signed a Gas Sales and Purchase Agreement (GSPA) with Turkmengas for the import of 38 mmscmd of natural gas for 30 years.

The Capital Maharaja Organization which has a long and rich history in the power & energy sector was the only Sri Lankan company represented at the ground-breaking ceremony.
