A project to provide compensation to the residents who are affected by the expansion of the Avvisawella – Colombo low level road, was held at the Kolonnawa Divisional Secretariat on Sunday.  The project which bears a cost of Rs. 7200 million includes Rs. 3500 which is allocated for compensation.

Therefore, as Phase 1 of the project, a sum of Rs. 250 million was distributed among 106 individuals. The expansion of the Avissawella – Colombo low level road is scheduled to commence in February 2016.

Minister of University Education and Highways, Lakshman Kiriella stated:

You all should be thankful to parliamentrian Marikkar because whenever we meet at parliament he kept telling me to commence work on this road and it was his interest that gave us strength and courage to commence work on this road. So if provincial MPs are committed we can get the work done.

Finance Minister, Ravi Karunanayake stated:

Provincial Councilor Marikkar is fighting for Kolonnawa and further provided Rs. 150 million and you need to be mindful that a sum of Rs. 1.5 million has been given to each Grama Sewa divisions in this area. This alone is enough for you all to develop this country and if this is not enough, we will provide another Rs. 150 million. But you need to be aware that there are many fanatics who are trying to do politics.

The finance Minster then raised the question “When these two parties are coming together who are they trying to strike against? Is it through Mahinda Rajapaksa who is responsible for the poor state of the economy?”

UNP Western Provincial Councilor, S.M Marikkar noted:

I believe that people should have dreams. Once they have a dream they would look for possible ways to achieve it. The garbage in Kolonnawa should not remain there but removed.

He  added:

When I contestested for the elections, many asked me if there was no other area but Kolonnawa to contest in, But I had a dream that people would talk proudly about Kolonnawa, Hence today is the first day that leads to the achievement of that dream.
