The women’s empowerment programme launched by News1st to promote awareness on gender equality, safeguarding and empowering women took place in Rambukkana and Anuradhapura on Friday.

Today, Friday, December 11, marks Day 9 of this one-of-a-kind campaign in the region aimed at bettering the lives of women in the country. The Empower the Woman campaign is aimed at uplifting the women in our society.

One leg of this awareness campaign took place in Rambukkana on Friday. The women in Rambukkana were also given the opportunity to raise the issues that they face.

This campaign which is organized by News 1st, Sirasa and Shakthi is aimed at empowering women with equality and security, and is carried out together with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Police, Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government, District Secretariats and Divisional Secretariats.

As the awareness campaign moves from town to town, and city to city, another leg took place in Anuradhapura. Following the programme in the town, the team moved to Shravasthipura and engaged in the awareness campaign.
