Empower the Woman, a campaign aimed to promote equality and security for women entered its sixth day on Tuesday December 8.
The campaign, which is travelling from village to village bringing women together, commenced its journey on Tuesday, from the heart of Nawalapitiya.
Women from different backgrounds gathered at the Nawalapitiya Main Bus Stand and raised their voice to ‘Empower Women” in the country.
Handbills were distributed to the masses in the area, and views and suggestions for a proposal aimed at women, were sought during the campaign.
The team which set off from the North, arrived in Batticaloa on Tuesday. During this campaign women from all walks of life were given the chance to share their ideas and grievances.
The Empower the Woman campaign is a joint initiative of News 1st, Sirasa and Shakthi, together with the Sri Lanka Police, the Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government and the district and divisional secretariats.
