The All Ceylon Farmers Federation state that there is a severe shortage of fertiliser in the country

Chairman Namal Karunarathne stated that farmers are facing several hardships as a result of this situation. He went on to note that if immediate steps are not taken by the government, they will not be able to yield suitable results from the paddy harvest.

However, when News1st made an inquiry with the Commissioner General of the Department of Agrarian Development, Sunil Weerasinghe, he stated that a solution to the problem will be provided as soon as possible.

He added that this situation arose as the previous batch of fertiliser was not upto standard and the government had also rejected imported fertiliser.

Sunil Weerasinghe said that the National Fertiliser Secretariat has promised to provide the necessary fertiliser as soon as possible.
