The General Manager of the Ceylon Electricity Board, M.C. Wickeramasekera stated that due to the water levels of reservoirs reaching full capacity, they have been able to increase the generation of hydro electricity.
He added that 70% of the electricity used daily, is being supplied by hydro electricity as 33 million vaults of electricity is generated on a daily basis in the country.
He added that other thermal power plants are currently inactive. The water levels of the reservoirs in close proximity to the power plants have almost reached full capacity owing to the incessant showers.
Meanwhile, the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka says that the water levels of the Victoria, Randenigala, Rantambe, Castlereagh and Maussakele reservoirs have reached spill level.
