Another social service project organised by News 1st was launched on Thursday.
The campaign Empower the Woman was initiatied with the aim of strengthening the women of Sri Lanka.
The Empower the Woman campaign commenced from Embilipitya on Thursday following an inauguration ceremony and is organized to strengthen the women who render a silent service for country, the community and family.
The campaign organised by News 1st, Sirasa and Shakthi, aimed at empowering women with equality and security is carried out together with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Police. Wristbands were distributed as a part of the awareness campaign where women were given the opportunity to raise the issues they face, and also put forward proposals.
Another phase of the campaign took place at the Bodhirajarama Viharaya in Embilipitiya with a significant participation from the public.
The campaign from the North commenced from the Urban Council of Point Pedro.
The campaign was attended by a number of female and civil organisations and was supported by the police officers and female police officers of the area.
There too they were given the opportunity to raise the issues that they face.
Director / General Manager of News 1st,Yasarath Kamalsiri speaking at the event stated:
You might recall our first ever community service programme, the Sirasa Shakthi Sahana Yathra, which was launched on a number of occasions and then we raised awareness among the public ahead of the general elections to elect untainted persons. We also undertook a programme For the Happiness of Our Children. And today we step into another new campaign.
Our duty is to bring you the news. But we have moved beyond that and are organising such programs because the top management of the organisation approves of such programmes.
