The Government Medical Officers Association is to engage in an island-wide strike, starting at 8 a.m. on Thursday.
The strike will be launched in retaliation to the various privileges that state employees , including doctors, have been deprived of, following this year’s budget.
Secretary of the Government Medical Officer’s Association, Doctor Nalinda Herath said that they have also secured the support of 18 other trade unions of state employees.
Minister of Health Rajitha Senaratne however said that it is unacceptable for doctors to engage in a strike owing to a vehicle permit.
