Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, has announced that the Nation Building Tax or NBT, will not be added to electricity bills.

Siyambalapitiya made this announcement at an event held at the Ministry. The new office of the Deputy Minister of Power and renewable energy was opened on Monday, November 30.

Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya stated that the four percent tax will not be added to the consumers’ electricity bill.

Deputy Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, Ajith P. Perera stated that they will provide a concessionary loan of Rs.40,000 for every home to secure their electricity bill.

He added that the procedure will be simple as they will not look the land deeds or permanent residence.

He went on to note that if the Grama Niladhari certificates their place of residence, then they could use the certificate and obtain the loan from the Electricity Board within a few days.
