President Sirisena declares open Mahatma Gandhi International Centre in Matale

President Maithripala Sirisena, on Sunday November 22, declared open the Mahatma Gandhi International Centre in Matale.

The centre was built at a cost of Rs.88 million with financial assistance from the Indian Government.

President Maithripala Sirisena also unveiled a statue of Veera Monarawila Keppetipola Maha Disawa, which has been erected adjacent to the Public Library in Moneragala.

The unveiling took place parallel to the 197th birthday of Keptipola Maha Disawa.

President Sirisena also attended a religious event in Habaraduwa on Saturday. The event was organised to felicitate Venerable Happawatha Revatha Thera, on his appointment as the Chief Sangha Nayaka of the Galle – Wellabada region of the Kotte Sri Kalyani Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha Council, and to mark his being awarded the honorific Keerthi Sri Jinarathana.
