A heated discussion took place in Parliament over the decentralised funds provided to parliamentarians.

UPFA MP Dullas Alahapperuma stated:

Presenting the budget on  January 27, the Finance Minister announced that the fund of five million rupees given to an MP will be increased to Rs.10 million and we applauded that statement and we had big expectations. Now it is said that it will be Rs.15 million so we have a fear in us when we hear the increase in the number.

He went on to raise the question:

What is the guarantee he can give to this chamber of the matter

Minister of Public Enterprises Development,Kabir Hashim stated:

The request made by the MP is reasonable. In 1994, when he was a cabinet minister, we as MPs did not receive a cent for a period of five years while in the opposition.

He further stated:

Persons who breached the privileges are speaking like this today. While bicycles were distributed for one party only, you did not even distribute the motorcycles. What did you do then? Are you not ashamed to speak of this.
