Eight more inmates who are being detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act are scheduled to be produced before court on Monday.
Court recently granted bail to 32 political prisoners who were detained at the Welikada Prison, while 24 of them were released after completing bail conditions.
Commissioner General of Prisons Rohana Pushpakumara said that the remaining eight inmates are to be produced before court on Monday.
Meanwhile, the inmates in question commenced a fast last Sunday demanding a final decision on their release. The fast has now entered its ninth day.
Commissioner General of Prisons Rohana Pushpakumara said that four of the political prisoners who are engaged in the hunger strike, were admitted to the Welikada Prison Hospital on Sunday evening and were brought back to the prison after treatment.
