Sri Lanka Navy Spokesperson, Captain Akram Alavi announced on Friday that they have commenced the transfer of Avant Garde weapons to the Sri Lanka Navy.

The issue surrounding Avant Garde was raised at a number of media briefings today.

Co – Convener of the Collective of Citizen Organisations, Saman Rathnapriya stated that persons involved in fraud and corruption in the country have shaken this country through the Avant Garde matter; and there are media reports which say that it will be shut down. However, there is an issue as to whether that is possible.

He further stated:

Our stance is that this has not taken place and more ministers are involved in this matter surrounding Avant Garde. So you cannot carry out a proper investigations, with persons connected to it remaining in the cabinet

Member of the Collective of Citizen Organisations, Joseph Stalin stated:

The issue we have is this, when will legal action be taken against the persons who were involved in this illegal weapons ring. And what action will be taken on the incident where the serial numbers of the weapons were changed.

He further stated that when the supply of arms was carried out by the Sri Lanka Navy, was Cabinet Approval obtained to transfer it to Avant Garde in 2012? Who had done this?

He went on to note that if Minister Wijeydasa Rajapakshe is acting beyond the statements made by the cabinet spokespersons, that will be a serious issue. So, what is the official stance of the Governmet?

He further stated:

There is one law for the common man and another for those with privileges. Persons who gave bribes to engage in the weapons ring must not be allowed to remain free in this country.

Member of the Collective of Citizen Organizations, Anura Bandara Rajaguru stated:

The government was established amidst many hardships. However, a conspiracy is taking place where the aspirations of 6.2 million people are shattered to bits

He further stated:

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and President Maithripala Sirisena should be aware of this situation and one part of this conspiracy is the change of the two judges who provided legal advise on the matter.  Avant Garde is just one part so there is a bigger picture

Leader of the Democratic Party, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka said:

Fifty percent of the 4000 persons serving at that company, that is 2000 personnel, are those who deserted the military.

He further stated:

The Head of Avant Garde contacted me three days after the presidential election and he wanted me to permit him to spend for my election campaign at the general elections. So I told him that he does not need to spend for my campaign and told him that we are planning to build a party office and that anyone can contribute towards that. And that there are charges against him and if these charges are raised, I would be the first to step out against him and told him to keep that in mind.

He further stated:

If he attempted to capture a small party like mine, how would he have stepped forward to provide money to the MPs and ministers in the United National Party that established a powerful government
