Sports Minister speaks of steps being taken to avoid possible ‘international suspension’

Minister of Sports Dayasiri Jaysekera says that an Extraordinary Gazette was issued with amendments to certain regulations of the Sports Act, as several sporting bodies in the country were facing a possible suspensions internationally.

The local governing bodies for Cricket, Hockey, Rugby, Swimming and Badminton are facing a possible suspension internationally.

Speaking at a media briefing, Sports minister Dayasiri Jayasekara said that they have decided on the dates and will gazette the regulations before December 31.

The minister also stated that they are looking into the possibility of getting a member from the respective international body to resolve the issues in the domestic bodies.
