The government’s current method of operation was criticised at a press conference convened by a group of MPs from the oppositions.

UPFA MP, Dullas Alahapperuma stated that the first accusation is that the Government of Mahinda Rajapaksa had given the China the contracts for the construction of expressways . The second accusation is that loans were obtained at higher interest rates from the Exim Bank of China.

He went on to state:

This tender had been provided without calling for tenders and the distance between Kosinna in Kadawatha to Meerigama is 36 km and a kilometre has been given to the China Construction Company to be constructed at a cost of 4.48 billion rupees and this was done without calling for tenders.

He further stated:

Loans have been obtained at higher interest rates and I am not saying this, it was the subject minister of the government who said this. So there is an issue in society whether these roads are being constructed with gold , platinum and diamonds?

He stated:

If fraud and corruption had taken place in the issue surrounding Avant Garde , it is the government’s duty and responsibility to expose it. The most serious issue that came to the fore under this Government was the Treasury Bond Issue and when COPE summoned the Governor of the Central Bank, he had accepted the fact. He did not even take an oath as a public servant as he is not a Sri Lankan national; but a special cabinet meeting was not called for this issue. So this is the noctambulist state of the government that spoke of righteousness

Leader of the MEP,Dinesh Gunawardena stated:

When Tilak Marapana and Wijeydasa Rajapakshe made statements, the statements made by the other government ministers and MPs were contradictory. It is clear that there is no political agreement and this is taking the country into a serious state.

Leader of the Democratic Leftist Front, Vasudeva Nanayakkara meanwhile said:

It is evident that the Prime Minister is responsible for this matter. Because everything is done after consulting the Prime Minister and the Ministries are under his supervision. All the Minister and MPs are aware that he was aware of what took place.
