Former Minister Mervyn Silva appeared in court on Wednesday following a notice that was issue on him by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court. The notice was issued in regard to the information provided to the criminal Investigations Department over the White Van Case.
Evidence was recorded at the Magistrate’s Court over the Habeas Corpus that was filed at the Appeal Court with regard to an incident where three persons were abducted by white cans from Modara, in 2011.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya had ordered that Mervyn Silva be summoned to provide evidence, if he had any information over the abductions.
The Criminal Investigations Department informed court that, Mervyn Silva had not provided a comprehensive statement to the CID over the matter, but had only provided a short letter.
The magistrate ordered the CID to produce all its documents during the next hearing and postponed the hearing to January 26.
The former minister stated:
I did not make changes to my statement. Basil Rajapaksa is the Godfather of the white van culture and he is a rogue. So, I will pull the hand-brake of my vehicle and observe what happens. After that I will continue with my journey…
