President Maithripala Sirisena, while addressing a public meeting at the Laggala Police Grounds, announced that Cabinet will convene for a Special meeting in order to take decisions pertaining to the Fraud and Corruption investigations including those related to Avant Garde.
He stated that a debate took place among the ministers at the cabinet meeting that took place on Thursday evening. The President said:
As we had others matters to attend to at the meeting, I concluded the matters in the agenda and then I noted that in order to carry out the investigations on Fraud and Corruption including Avant Garde in a proper manner, and to proceed with these matters , I will strengthen this task.
He further stated:
After taking into consideration the criticism and the short-comings , I will convene a special cabinet meeting in order to take decisions on this. I notified the secretary to the cabinet on this matter when I left Colombo this morning. A Special Cabinet meeting will be convened and the cabinet will be vested with the power to take decisions surrounding these matters and address the short-comings to proceed further and I respect the opinion of the majority.
President Maithripala Sirisena on Friday undertook an observation of the Moragahakanda Kalu Ganga Development Project site.
The President also took part in the preliminary procedure of placing customary precious items under the main dam which is to be constructed across the Amban Ganga.
The Moragahakanda project, is the biggest multi-functional irrigation project in Sri Lanka.
The president also pledged to expedite process of providing compensation to those who lost lands as a result of this project.
