The landslide warning issued for eight districts, due to the prevalent weather conditions, is still in effect. The Disaster Management Centre said that the landslide warning will take effect for the next 24 hours.
The Landslide warning was issued to the Moneragala, Badulla, Nuwara Eliya, Kegalle, Kandy, Kalutara, Kurunegela and Ratnapura Districts.
Meanwhile, Train services along the upcountry railway line were disrupted owing to a collapse of an earth embankment on Friday morning.
The Railway Control Room said that railway services, along railway line in the area between Bandarawela and Giloya were also disrupted owing to a collapse of an earth embankment. The control room further noted that railway services have therefore been restricted, up to Bandarawela.
Meanwhile, a three-wheeler which was travelling along a bridge in Appaththgamuwa , Bandarawela, was swept away by the waters.
Our Correspondent said that driver of the three-wheeler and the passenger had gone missing.
Meanwhile, six houses have been severely damaged owing to a landslide in Agarapathana, Akurowatte and Nallathanni areas. Meanwhil,e the Pashinwatte road in Lindula was blocked following a collapse of a boulder.
Further, the sluice gates of a number of reservoirs which come under the jurisdiction of the Nuwara Eliya district were opened as the water was nearing spill levels. Our correspondent said that sluice gates of the Castlereagh and Wimalasurendra reservoirs were opened as a result.
