Justice Minister makes observations on Avant Garde issue

Speaking at a media briefing on Friday, Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said that a certain media institution is making an attempt to obtain the Avant Garde contract for a maritime security company.

Minister of Justice stated that there is an attempt to have close contact with the security units of the country through certain companies, in order to get matters done through the security sector, and therefore a media campaign took place several months. What this media institutions wants it to remove that contract from the grasp of Avant Garde and obtain that contract for a maritime security company which they are preparing to register.

He stated:

They went behind the persons in the government and they were slinging mud at the AG’s Department and criticised the Police and the subject ministers. They created an opinion in the country citing that Avant Garde was a threat to the nation and they are attempting to take it away from Avant Garde and give it to their institution

The Minister of Justice added:

I will not speak of the opinions of others because I am the Justice Minister and I know the law.

He further stated:

We are aware of the procedure followed on implementing the law in the country and no matter what people say, the state of the nation would be the stance of the Attorney General and he had made his stance clear.
