News 1st, celebrates its 20th anniversary today, Friday, November 6. The MTV / MBC Media Networks owned by The Capital Maharaja Organisation took its first ever step in airing news on March 2, 1995. The radio stations, Sirasa FM and YES FM have remained in the forefront ever since.

Today, marks twenty years since news was aired on the MTV Channel on  November 6, 1995.

News 1st, which made a giant leap in adding the unexpected and unseen to its News bulletins brings 102 News Bulletins Daily in Sinhala , Tamil and English through TV Channels Sirasa TV , Shakthi TV and MTV; through radio stations Sirasa FM , Shakthi FM , YES FM, Y FM and Legends and through its award- winning website, www.newsfirst.lk.

This is done with the joint efforts of a countrywide correspondent base with over 20,000 U- Reporters, International Bureau Correspondents and News 1st Reporters.

News 1st is committed to report and break the news to the public as an when it happens and always gives priority to the nation through its reporting tag line , We Report; You Decide – and because of that very reason, people from all walks life joined hands with us when we initiated the Sahana Yathra Campaign to respond to the natural disasters that affected the country.

Other successful campaigns include the Ranbhumi Rally for Unity aimed at building National Unity among all Sri Lankans , The National Anti-Drug Drive Think campaigns aimed at electing untainted public representatives, and For the Happiness of Our Children campaign

News 1st which inquires in to the shortcomings in the country decided to take action to launch an awareness campaign to put a stop the human elephant conflict as the conflict was costing the lives of many wild elephants and became the voice of the villages , through News1st’s – Gammedda.

The Democracy of the country was further established through our programmes, Minnel , Satana, Dawasa, Sathyaya, Ilakkaya, Newsline, Face the Nation, Pethikasa, Face to face and Janatha Vedikawa

We, at News 1st were able to impact the sporting arena in the country through our innovative sports programs such as Gamata Krida , Platinum Awards and the first of its kind sports reality TV program  Super Fighter.

News 1st Classroom and Danamuthu Sayanaya which aims to educate students on media literacy and leadership and V-Awards, organised to recognise, inspire and honour Sri Lanka’s volunteers are also efforts undertaken by News1st.

We do not limit ourselves to the national arena alone, and was recently awarded the opportunity to be apart of the United Nations World Humanitarian Summit.

News 1st, which has set the path for news reporting in the 21st century will continue to strive further in its media service, while opening new avenues to conquer new frontiers.
