The Collective of Citizen Organisations convened a media briefing in Colombo.

Collective of Citizen Organisations, Saman Rathnapriya stated:

Minister of Law and Order Tilak Marapana announced in Parliament that legal action cannot be taken on the issue surrounding Avant Garde but we see this a very wrong statement and we condemn this statement.

He raised the question:

Minister Tilak Marapana have the right to make such a statement. He may have been a lawyer, and Avant Garde may have been his client; but he is a parliamentarian and a minister so he has no moral right to make such statements. The law in the country is implemented in one way for a certain group and in another way for the other group

Collective of Citizen Organizations, Chameera Perera stated:

Tilak Marapana is not a stakeholder in the struggle carried out by the civil organisations and the public before January 8. So it is clear that before the 8th of January he was with that institution and he is a consultant to that company. So he was protecting that company. So giving a person like that the Ministry of Law and Order is something serious and Tilak Marpana is not suitable for that position

Following an event in Wattala on Friday, journalists questioned Minister John Amaratunga over the Avant Garde matter. The Minister of Tourism Development and Christian Affairs in reply stated:

I do not know whether it was done by the police to score brownie points or for any other matter. However, the opposition made a serious accusation that it was being undermined but I do not know the truth to this

Former Navy Commander Admiral Jayantha Perera was summoned before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate Serious Acts of Fraud and Corruption on Friday to give a statement with regard to an investigation into the Rakna Araksha Lanka Limited.

The former navy commander stated:

I was summoned to make an explanation on the relationship between Rakna Arakshaka Lanka and Avant Garde when I was serving as the Navy Commander and when serving as accountable state officials we need to provide a direct answer to know whether corruption had taken place.

When questioned as to what is the real issue surrounding Avant Garde he stated:

I cannot give details on that as we were serving in line with our duties, and there is an ongoing investigation.

He further added that Avant Garde and Rakna Arakshaka Lanka joined and formed a business and the Navy was vested with a task and the Navy performed that task. That is all
