A survey carried out by Prof. Samath Dharmaratna of the Peradeniya University has revealed that, on average, a minimum of seven accidents occur every day on the roads in Sri Lanka.
He says that an accident is reported every ten minutes, adding that road accidents have increased by 12% over the past five decades.
He further said that at least 1.2 million people die while 0.5 million people are injured, as a result of road accidents.
