The National Building Research Organisation says that the landslide warning issued to ten districts has been extended. Director of Landslides and Risk Management Division of the NBRO R.M.S. Bandara said that the landslide warnings are still in effect to the districts of Moneragala, Badulla, Nuwara Eliya,Kegalle, Kandy, Kalutara, Rathnaputra, Matara, Hambanthota, and Kurunegala.
Vehicular travel on the Galdola road via the Matara – Bengamuwa road has been obstructed as a result of a landslide close to the Rambukowita bridge on Wednesday night.
According to our correspondent said that the landslide affected several power lines in the area, disrupting power in the area since Wednesday night. He added that the road is being restored with the assistance of the police and officials of the Pasgoda and Kotapola Pradeshiya Sabha.
He added that 24 families in the Miyanna-vita-watta area in Deraniyagala have been placed at temporary camps due to the threat of landslides. Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology has forecast showers in the Southeastern parts and in the sea areas off the Southern and Southeastern coast.
They added that thundershowers will occur at most places elsewhere after 02.00 p.m. adding that fairly heavy falls of more than 75 mm are also likely at some places.
