News1st’s For the Happiness of our Children campaign reaches Anuradhapura and Bandarawela

On Wednesday October 14, the News 1st-initiated, countrywide awareness campaign For the Happiness of our Children which aims at ensuring the safety and happiness of children, reached the towns of Anuradhpura and Bandarawela.

A warm welcome was given by the public to the programme, which is conducted with the assistance of the Ministry of Justice, Peace and Prison Reforms.

The programme, spreading the message for the importance of protecting the children, resumed its journey from Mihintale on Wednesday amid support provided by the clergy, and well wishers, who added great encouragement for the success of the initiative.

A number of three-wheeler drivers joined in the procession as the police assisted the News 1st teams on the ground to carry out the campaign successfully.

The teachers and the students of the Mihintale Maha Vidyalaya joined the procession which arrived at the Mihintale Public Fair to educate the public on the protection of children.

Meanwhile, the News 1st team which arrived in Anuradhapura was assisted by police officers, state institutions, civil organisations as well as many enthusiastic individuals of the public who were eager to spread the message of protecting children.

Furthermore, Many individuals who identified the importance protecting children volunteered to help promote this message across the town of Bandarawela. The team which arrived in Haputale then engaged in awareness programmes with the help received by the police officials of the area.

Another awareness campaign was held at the Tamil Maha Viduhala in Nayabedda. Yet another team which then arrived in Meeriyabedda educated the public by reminding them about the instant help line 1929 which can be used to report child abuse.

The campaign which focusses on protecting the happiness of the child will initiate awareness campaigns in areas surrounding Dambulla, Uva Paranagama and in the district of Nuwara Eliya on Thursday October 15.
