President makes address at ‘Wana Ropa’ national tree planting programme

President Maithripala Sirisena says that it is intended that the current forest cover be increased to 32% over the next three years.

The President made this statement while addressing an event held in Kotmale on Saturday. The Wana Ropa National Tree Planting Programme commenced under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena in Kotmale on Sunday.

President Sirisena planted an iron wood sapling marking the commencement of the National programme.

Under this programme, which will get underway from January next year, it is expected that the  current forest cover be expanded from the current  29%   to 32% within the next three years.
