During the cabinet media briefing held on Thursday, October 8,  journalists raised questions regarding the seizure of another vessel with weapons owned by Avant Garde.

Co-cabinet Media Spokesperson Minister Rajitha Senaratne noted that the President has issued strict instructions to prosecute, based on the laws of the country. The minister noted that officials on the vessel had initially denied that there were weapons on board the vessel. But they were subsequently discovered.

Minister Senaratne also noted that, according to the Attorney General’s Department a civil lawsuit must be filed.

Journalists also raised questioned on whether investigations into Avant Garde could continue in a backdrop where a Minister is involved with the organisation.
