The campaign titled For Our Children, an initiative to ensure the protection of children and build a better future for them in the country, entered its third day on Thursday.
This countrywide awareness campaign, organised by News 1st, together with the Ministry of Law and Order and Prison Reforms, is being carried out in order to ensure child protection. The campaign commenced from the North and the South of the country on October 5.
The campaign, which was inaugurated from the South commenced its journey from Hambantota on Thursday.
The News 1st team visited the Hambantota Vidyalaya and created awareness on child protection, in a bid spread the message across to students, parents and teacher.
The campaign moved to the Hambantota Main Bus Stand and proceeded towards other locations in the city and moved to Weerawila, Punchi Palama, Dembarawewa and Senapura villages and raised awareness among
The awareness campaign that was inaugurated from the North, commenced its journey from the Jaffna District Secretariat on Thursday morning under the auspices of District Secretary N. Vedanayagam.
The campaign took place at the Main Bus Stand in Jaffna and several other key areas, with the participation of the police officers and the district secretariat officers. The campaign then moved to the Kottady area.
Ediriweera Gunasekera of the National Child Protection Authority, speaking on the occasion noted:
On behalf of the National Child Protection Authority, I make this request from the public. That is to please make complaints relating to physical , mental and sexual Harassment against children.
He further stated that the National Child Protection Authority will take immediate action on those complaints, and Investigations will be directed to the relevant bodies and the NCPA will monitor the progress of the investigations
