Rubber producers charge that the subsidy of Rs.300 provided per kilogramne of rubber has been halted. The rubber producers state that this has caused them much financial difficulty, and urge the authorities to rectify the current situation.
News 1st, made an inquiry in this regard from the Minister of Plantation Industries, Naveen Dissanayake. The Minister said :
The provision of the 300 rupee subsidy per kilogramme of rubber had concluded on the 30th of September. A request had been made from the Economic Development Committee that convenes under the auspices of the Prime Minister, to extend the provision of the subsidy for another two months.
