Issuing a statement, the Chief Minister of the Northern Province C.V. Wigneswaran has stated that he welcomes the fact that the UNHRC is expecting to adopt a resolution on promoting reconciliation, accountability and Human Rights in Sri Lanka.
The Chief Minister further stated that the High Commissioner for Human Rights himself had made it clear in his recommendations on the OISL report that a domestic court procedure will have no chance of overcoming the wide spread justifiable suspicions fueled by decades of violations, malpractice and broken promises.
He noted that the resolution is a step forward, but, it is clear that only with the most rigorous monitoring and proactive involvement of the international community will it lead to the kind of progress which all the communities in Sri Lanka deserve.
