President Sirisena to address World Leaders Summit on UN Peace-keeping Missions

President Maithripala Sirisena, who is in New York for the 70th UN General Assembly, is due to address a world leaders’ summit on UN peacekeeping missions, on Monday.

Director of the President’s Media Divisions, Dharmasri Bandara Ekanayake, said that the US Secretary of State John Kerry, visited the hotel that the President is staying at, to meet with President Maithripala Sirisena on Sunday. He also stated the president held extensive discussions with the US Secretary of State and several important matters were discussed.

He further noted that the President will also address a world leaders’ summit on UN peacekeeping missions which has been scheduled for about 3 p.m. New York time adding that he will also hold bilateral discussions with several heads of state.

Meanwhile, President Sirisena also participated at the summit on gender equality and the empowerment of women, at the UN Headquarters in New York on Sunday. The President also visited the Buddhist Temple in New York.

The President engaged in religious observances and addressed the Sri Lankan nationals who had gathered at the temple.
