A country-wide power failure was reported early morning on Monday September 28. According to the Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board Anura Wijepala, the country-wide blackout was caused by a system failure.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Power and Energy has revealed the reason for the country-wide power failure stating that the blackout was caused by a high voltage of electricity supply to the grid during a time of low demand.
Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Energy, Dr Suren Batagoda stated that a high voltage of electricity supplied to the grid during a time where the electricity demand is low, has led to the breakdown.
He further noted that an internal investigation has been launched into the incident.
