A story of a heroic son who was able to rescue his mother from the grasp of a crocodile was reported from Anuradhapura. The forty-eight-year-old woman who is a resident of Senapura in Anuradhapura had gone to the Kala Oya to bathe.

Her son who arrived at the location after hearing his mother scream was able to see how his mother had fallen victim to the grasp of a crocodile.

He was able to secure the life of his mother after jumping into the water and wrestling with the crocodile. The mother is currently receiving treatment at the National Hospital.

She described her experience to News 1st

I was shouting “save me I am  being pulled away.” He said do not worry mother, I am coming, and jumped into the water. I held my hand and he wrestled with the crocodile. That is all I remember. He took me onto his shoulder brought me to land and told me that he will somehow save me.”

The leg of the mother was amputated after surgery at the National Hospital in Colombo.

In  recent days crocodiles were seen along coastal line around Colombo. Locations such as the Galle Face beach, Dehiwala, and Colpetty are of significance.

Environmentalists state that the actions of humans have paved the way for such incidents.
