Opposition representatives expressed views on the OHCHR report on Tuesday, September 22. JVP Secretary, Vijith Herath stated that Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Ban Ki-moon signed a joint communique. As a country they made a pledge to the United Nations.

He went on to note that the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva acted based on the joint communique that was signed. Subsequently, the Darusman Report was filed. Thereafter, the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission was establish and a report was published.

However, the recommendations of the report was not implemented. As for today, the Report of the High Commissioner for Human Rights was tabled as a result of the pledge made by the Rajapaksa regime.

He added that they do not endorse the proposal to introduce a hybrid court, as the present government has a responsibility to strengthen the judiciary, and make it independent.
