Four persons who have allegedly purchased vehicles in a fraudulent manner, under an instalment payment plan, and had thereafter stolen parts of those vehicles, have been arrested.
The Office of the Police Media Spokesperson said that the suspects have allegedly changed the vehicle registration numbers and the chassis numbers and had sold parts.
Two buses, two tipper trucks, a lorry, a van, two three-wheelers, and 25 vehicle registration documents which were found in the possession of the suspects were seized by the police.
In addition, four counterfeit official seals, national identity cards of 15 different people, machinery used to create counterfeit number plates, a computer, national logos and 14 false number plates were also seized. The police said that complaints were lodged with the Matale, Nawalapitiya, Padukka, and Batticaloa police stations with regard to this operation.
The suspects are due to be produced before courts today.
